Giving a new meaning to Goody Box.

Ripping a page from both Amazon’s and Birchbox’s playbooks, secondhand online retailer ThredUp is launching a try-before-you-buy box service.

Called Goody Box, the new service selects 10 to 20 pieces from ThredUp’s massive selection of used clothing — from brands such as Gap, Free People, J. Crew, Nike and even high-end brands like (expertly verified) Gucci — which will be delivered straight to customers’ front doors. All shoppers have to do is take an online quiz to assess personal style, size and brand preference, and an algorithm will take care of the rest.

Each box will run $20 — the cost of shipping and service (er, “treasure-hunting”) fees. However, that cash can then be applied toward the purchase of any of the products in your Goody Box. Whatever you don’t like, just send back in the box.

Earlier this year, Amazon launched a try-before-you-buy box; however, customers were given autonomy to select their own products. For busier (or lazier) folk, however, we imagine that assigning the laborious task of browsing through the extensive collection of pre-owned Lululemon zip-ups and Free People ponchos will be a major selling point. While, yes, you are technically forking over $20, with 10 to 20 pieces in each shipment, we imagine that at least one piece will be worth springing for.

The company is hoping that by taking all work out of the shopping experience, the Goody Box will encourage more potential consumers to embrace the thrifting lifestyle — and to step away from the land of TJ Maxx and Marshalls . With both off-price stores and ThredUp now touting luxury brands (the former with some possible legal ramifications), it’s never been easier or more affordable to get your mitts on the Celine of your dreams.
