The Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G Plate asked for the distribution of free digital TV set top boxes to be accelerated.The Minister of Communication and Informatics said that coordination between the central government, local governments, and multiplexing operators is needed to accelerate the implementation of Analog Switch Off (ASO).This was revealed in a meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs and Regional Heads regarding data on poor households in the context of migrating analog TV to digital.So far, the implementation of the termination of analog TV broadcasts to digital TV broadcasts has only been implemented in eight districts/cities out of 166 districts/cities according to the ASO stage."Precisely on April 30, we started ASO and we will continue it gradually," said Johnny in a press release quoted by detikINET, Monday (6/6/2022).For this reason, multiplexing organizers coordinate with local governments and other related institutions, especially in the distribution of free set top box assistance to poor families.This is because the Minister of Communication and Informatics said that the television equipment owned by the public has not been able to fully capture digital TV broadcasts.Therefore, the distribution of free digital TV set top boxes is important in the success of digital TV broadcasts."Because in the next phases we will also carry out ASO. I ask to start discussing it and at the same time give challenges to television companies. Is it possible to do ASO from the capital? We will do this together," he explained.He revealed that tight coordination is needed, one of which relates to the availability of very crucial recipient data.The Minister of Communication and Informatics assessed that if it had been implemented, the digitization of national broadcasting would be easy."The sooner, the better. I hope that if this is possible, a team will immediately be formed after this meeting and can immediately coordinate to enter data that can be given later to provide STB to make distribution faster," he said.The multiplexing operator is committed to providing assistance as many as 4.2 million units of free digital TV set top boxes.Meanwhile, the remaining one million comes from Kominfo."We have to make sure the availability of 5.2 million units is sufficient for the needs of STB for televisions for the poor that are not yet digital," he hoped.
